Here’s a much-delayed video of the Bombay Mermaid Trading Co. Fall 2014 collection, presented during Sisters on the Runway, NYC chapter’s show in Union Square last October. Sisters on the Runway has a new website, which you can check out here.
We’re so proud to announce that the Sisters on the Runway NYC show raised over 4K for the non profit Safe Horizon this year, which benefits women and children impacted by domestic violence. ▽ BOMBAY MERMAID ▽ Trading Co. opened both shows on Friday and Saturday night. It was great to see familiar faces in the audience and meet some new mermaids too! A special thanks to everyone involved in bringing this collection to life. Here are some backstage snaps from the event.

Dear mermaids. How are your Octobers progressing?
While usually my favorite month, this October has been a particularly challenging one. Aside from enduring some swirling existential uncertainties (which I attribute to my own personal return of Saturn and the bizarre and beautiful collage of life in general), I’ve also been putting in long hours behind the sewing machine to prepare the Bombay Mermaid collection for the annual Sisters on the Runway fashion show. Bombay Mermaid will open both shows on the 24th and 25th (grab your tickets here if you’re in NYC—proceeds go to an amazing organization that benefits women and children impacted by domestic violence), and I am both beyond excited and, of course, super anxious.
In addition to this, the shop has been busy, so I’ve been packing and shipping orders while working on a brand new collection of accessories for the holiday season, which you can expect to see in the shop soon. I’m also working on an amazing, theatrical mask for a performer and friend, which will debut on Halloween.
It’s hard to design from the heart when your heart feels heavy, but focusing in on creative energy is one of the most nurturing things you can do for yourself. If you’re also having a rough time this fall, I encourage you to bust out some paint brushes, beads, or fabric and vent with your hands.
The new Libra moon means all sorts of new opportunity and creative energy for Libras like myself, so I’ll be working hard to deliver some of that goodness to all of you through the shop, as well as through a gorgeous new lookbook, and a few other gems that are in the works.
This is a more personal blog than I would usually write, but I wanted to take a minute to update you and to say thank you for supporting the shop and making me smile.
We’re already half way through October, so let’s make the rest of it completely magical.
A behind-the-scenes look at what’s in store for the Oct 24-25 runway show in NYC… prints, beads, saturated colors and pom-poms. What more could you ask for?
We’ll be opening both shows for Sisters on the Runway, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those impacted by domestic violence. Ticket info coming soon.
Textile & color schemes for Bombay Mermaid’s 2014 SOTR presentation. It’s all about pop colors and mixing prints this year.
Sisters on the Runway is a non-profit organization that dedicates time and resources to assisting women who have been victims of domestic violence, and their children. This hugely important organization has chapters across the United States, and their annual runway shows raise money for a great cause.
You can come out and see the Bombay Mermaid collection, and be a part of the event on October 24-25. Details soon…
