Mariana Yegros in Bombay Mermaid

So excited to post these shots of Mariana Yegros of La Yegros in Bombay Mermaid Trading Co. These photos were shot on the band’s first US tour in September around the streets of Williamsburg by Israeli photographer Ayala Gazit. The team had a blast running around Brooklyn, searching out graffiti and cool spots to capture Mariana’s amazing energy.

With 12 international tours under her belt, she is a force to be reckoned with (and she also went home with a Bombay Mermaid poncho to rock out with on tour). Special thanks to my dear friend and producer Allie Silver for linking us up and making this happen.

Treasure chests

This season we’re excited to offer hand-painted, hand-embellished jewelry and gift boxes, inspired by Indian bridal henna and some of our favorite holiday jewel tones. If you’re looking for the perfect gift, or you need a place to stash your international loose change and some favorite jewelry, you’re going to love them.

There are four one of a kind designs, up in the shop right now.

Get one for you, and one for a mermaid you adore…

Two stylish sisters

I’d like to introduce you to two stylish sisters who are very dear to my heart. Becca is my sister-in-law: an amazing mother, artist, creator, and inspiration based in New York. She runs Little Otto Shop (named after my sweet potato nephew), where she sells quirky, gorgeous handmade jewelry and accessories. Becca is always creating and dreaming up new products in the midst of her busy life, and she you’ll never see her in an outfit that’s anything less than brilliant.

Natalia is an incredible professional photographer and gifted story-teller—see her work at TaliaStudio, based in San Diego, California—who juggles being a super-mom (her two little ones are gems, to say the least, destined for a stylish future of their own) with producing dreamy, timeless photos of her clients, and running her business like a champ.

It’s an honor to see them wearing Bombay Mermaid on their joint blog, The Sister Files. See more of these outfits here and here.

Backstage

We’re so proud to announce that the Sisters on the Runway NYC show raised over 4K for the non profit Safe Horizon this year, which benefits women and children impacted by domestic violence. ▽ BOMBAY MERMAID ▽ Trading Co. opened both shows on Friday and Saturday night. It was great to see familiar faces in the audience and meet some new mermaids too! A special thanks to everyone involved in bringing this collection to life. Here are some backstage snaps from the event.

October notes

Dear mermaids. How are your Octobers progressing?

While usually my favorite month, this October has been a particularly challenging one. Aside from enduring some swirling existential uncertainties (which I attribute to my own personal return of Saturn and the bizarre and beautiful collage of life in general), I’ve also been putting in long hours behind the sewing machine to prepare the Bombay Mermaid collection for the annual Sisters on the Runway fashion show. Bombay Mermaid will open both shows on the 24th and 25th (grab your tickets here if you’re in NYC—proceeds go to an amazing organization that benefits women and children impacted by domestic violence), and I am both beyond excited and, of course, super anxious.

In addition to this, the shop has been busy, so I’ve been packing and shipping orders while working on a brand new collection of accessories for the holiday season, which you can expect to see in the shop soon. I’m also working on an amazing, theatrical mask for a performer and friend, which will debut on Halloween.

It’s hard to design from the heart when your heart feels heavy, but focusing in on creative energy is one of the most nurturing things you can do for yourself. If you’re also having a rough time this fall, I encourage you to bust out some paint brushes, beads, or fabric and vent with your hands.

The new Libra moon means all sorts of new opportunity and creative energy for Libras like myself, so I’ll be working hard to deliver some of that goodness to all of you through the shop, as well as through a gorgeous new lookbook, and a few other gems that are in the works.

This is a more personal blog than I would usually write, but I wanted to take a minute to update you and to say thank you for supporting the shop and making me smile.

We’re already half way through October, so let’s make the rest of it completely magical.

With love,

M

P.S. Be sure to come hang out on facebook and instagram for mermaid-worthy inspiration (and some impending holiday coupon codes)!
