Bindis are used in India and throughout South East Asia during celebratory occasions and are seen as a “third eye”. They are placed between the eyes at the sixth chakra. In the Hindu religion, bindis are said to strengthen concentration and repel bad luck.
While bindis have been used to signify a specific religion or status, they are now worn in wide variation and are largely decorative, hence the beautiful designs you see in many shops and markets.
